N367 is an informational alert. The payer has forwarded the claim information to a Consumer Spending Account processor, for example a flexible spending account or health savings account administrator, to review for payment of the patient's portion.

What N367 means

Many patients have a flexible spending account, health savings account, or similar account linked to their health plan. With N367, the payer tells you it has passed the claim details to the company that runs that account. The account administrator will look at the patient’s share (deductible, coinsurance, or copay) and decide whether to reimburse it from the account.

N367 usually appears on lines with PR adjustments such as CARC 1, 2, or 3. It doesn’t change the plan’s own payment.

What to do

  1. Post the remittance normally. The patient responsibility amounts stay on the patient’s account for now.
  2. Watch for account payments. Depending on the account’s setup, the processor may pay you directly or reimburse the patient.
  3. Time your statement. Some practices hold the patient statement for a short period to allow the account payment to arrive, which avoids confusing the patient.
  4. Apply any account payment against the patient balance when it comes in, and bill any remainder to the patient.

If patients ask why they got a statement, explain that the spending account handles its own reimbursements and they can check their account portal for status.

No. It concerns only the patient's share, not the plan's payment.
